Roman Art from the Louvre coming to OKC Museum of Art
I was out at the Oklahoma City Art Museum Wednesday afternoon and met with the guys behind the new Roman Art from the Louvre exhibit that opens June 19.
Roman Art from the Louvre is an exhibition of original works from the Louvre museum in Paris and Oklahoma City is one of the stops on the three city tour of this traveling exhibition. The collection is on loan from the Louvre and it’s made up of around 180 examples of Roman art - all made between the first century BC and the early fourth century AD. The objects have never been on exhibition in the United States. Check wimgo.com for more details - Roman Art from the Louvre
I was able to have a conversation with several of the people responsible for the exhibit and it was interesting to hear about what went into getting it here to Oklahoma City. They were still in the process of unpacking and setting everything up, so it was kinda cool to walk around roomfuls of custom made crates filled with the ancient artwork (think Indian Jones and a huge museum warehouse). I was blown away to see this side of the process and learn about what goes into making something like this happen.
