RiverFest without the Dragons

Saturday I went out to RiverFest on the Oklahoma River.

Team Wimgo was out in force for some Dragon boat racing, but no dice. The officials said it was too windy to let us out on the water. Honestly, I was fine with that. Falling out of a boat with plenty of people watching from the shore wasn’t how I wanted to spend my Saturday morning.

A cool thing about the event this year was that RiverFest was the official kickoff of Navy Week here in Oklahoma City. The U.S. Navy had some interactive exhibits, my favorite being the deep water diver. They had a diver in this huge water tank and you could ask him questions by writing them out with a marker on a big plastic window. He’d write backwards on his side so we could read his response - impressive. The usual ‘how does it feel to be underwater?’ and ‘how long have you been under water today?’ were asked while we were standing there.

The best response came after someone wrote, “What’s your phone number? A couple girls out here want to know.” After reading the question a couple times and an unusually awkward pause, he wrote out his number with a handful of of girls furiously typing it into their cell phones.
