deadCENTER Film Festival - day 1

OKC deadCENTER pass
Day one of the deadCENTER Film Festival was great. The kick off party for the All-Access pass holders started around 7:30 at the Film Exchange Building off Sheridan just west of downtown. Filmmakers and film enthusiasts alike were on hand for the food and/or to promote their film. I talked with several of the filmmakers whose films will be featured this year during the festival.

I also met a young filmmaker tonight from Oklahoma whose short film, Don’t Lose Your Marbles, will be playing Friday night at 7pm with the rest of the Okie Shorts at Kerr Auditorium. He said he works at a truck rental store here in Oklahoma City making $7 an hour and they had to borrow a camera from school to shoot his film. He also talked about spending around $50-100 on the entire project, and that included buying pizza for the cast and crew. I’m sure some of the other filmmakers at this festival can relate to his story.

After the party, the film Rainbow Around the Sun made it’s long awaited Oklahoma debut. Even though the wind gave them some problems initially, a huge screen and sound system were set up for an outdoor screening. If you missed it tonight, there is another screening - check wimgo.com for details on the Friday night screening. I talked with the guys earlier and they told me about how their film had already played at SXSW and the Florida Film Festival.
