fair food and the tattoo game

With parking traffic backed up for what seemed like miles, I think most of Oklahoma was at the fair Sunday afternoon.

One thing I learned from the Oklahoma State Fair this year - go with several friends and all chip in money to buy vender food. Seven of us went in together and kept from breaking the bank. I did spend my own $3 for roasted corn and another $3 for lemonade, but we didn’t go broke buying cinnamon rolls, funnel cakes, and deep fried Snickers bars. The smaller portions also kept us from self-induced sugar comas.

On different note, the fair has always made for outstanding people watching. I couldn’t tell you another time of year where such a diverse collection of people all gather in one place. In years past, the state fair was ideal for mullet hunting. But with the recent popularity of the modern mullet (and the fact that I cut mine off this summer), our group settled on a substitute game of ‘find the most interesting tattoo.’

The Oklahoma State Fair runs through the 21st, so make sure to go out and meet your yearly quota of junk food and people watching.
