the one time when corn and cinnamon rolls go together
Food is always at the top of the list in my Oklahoma State Fair plan of attack. You have to set your priorities when you have so many options.
1. corn on the cob
2. cinnamon roll
3. lemonade and/or jug of rootbeer
My parents got me hooked on the roasted corn on the cob and the cinnamon rolls are almost a requirement if you visit the fair. The lemonade washes it all down so you don’t get sick while walking the rest of the midway. The jug of rootbeer isn’t a necessity, but helps to keep the lemonade company.
I tend to stay away from the fried Twinkies and Oreos, but the thinly cut potato chip/fries thing and ketchup/salt combo goes well with the lemonade. Just thinking about the chicken kabobs is making my Monday morning that much better.
The Oklahoma State Fair opens this week and I can’t think of a better reason to completely forget any of the healthy eating habits I may have learned over the years (sorry mom).
Got favorite fair foods? Let me know about it in the comment section.

How did the Labor Day plans turn out? Anything exciting?
While some of my friends headed out to the lake for the last time this summer or just took advantage of sleeping in, I spent most of the weekend becoming a first-time homeowner. Google search and Home Depot were key in my learning to patch drywall and avoiding death while replacing circa 1940 light switches.

Remington Park Birthday Bash
Still looking for Labor Day plans? Remington Park’s 20th b-day is Sept. 1st and they’re throwing a huge party. Horse racing, a casino, food/drinks, and stuff for the kids should make for a decent day out of the office.

Labor Day plans
Labor Day weekend seems to be the unofficial end to summer. If you’re looking for something to do, wimgo.com has plenty of ideas for the weekend on the Labor Day page. I’m looking forward to the first OU football game of the season.
take me out to the ballgame
Following Sushi Thursday, a couple of us went to the RedHawks game at the AT&T Bricktown Ballpark. The RedHawks lost to Iowa, but we had a great time (press suite tickets didn’t hurt either - thanks OPUBCO).

Nine Inch Nails at the Ford Center
Trent Reznor and the boys will be stopping in OKC and unfortunately I’m not going. I’d love to be at the Ford Center tonight to catch the show and the NIN crowd they’ll bring in. This industrial rock band is touring with their new album ‘Ghosts.’
For anyone that gets a chance to go, let me know about it in the comment section. I’m interested in their opening act, A Place to Bury Strangers. I loved the byline “Total Sonic Annihilation” on their myspace music page.

Dave Matthews Band in Bricktown
Autumn visited the month of August Wednesday night for the live Dave Matthews Band show at the Bricktown Ballpark. The weather was close to perfect for an outdoor concert.
Instead of pony’ng up $65 for tickets, I joined some friends and about 50 others on top of the parking garage by the ball park. We couldn’t see the band and the sound wasn’t great, but it still made for a great night.

Made You Look - Oklahoma graffiti culture
The 2nd annual Made You Look graffiti art show was great Saturday night. I was surprised to see such a diverse turn out for the show.
I talked with a couple of the graffiti artists about their work and their thoughts on art vs. vandalism.
Some of these guys are really fighting the good fight in their efforts to shine a positive light on the graffiti culture here in OKC. Unfortunately it looks like they’ve got their work cut out for them. Even with legal walls feet from them, a couple punk kids ran through the alley and tagged the walls with markers. Another punch in the mouth comes with the new graffiti on a couple interstate signs over northbound I-235.
For the guys doing the right thing, keep up the good work and point the trouble makers in the right direction.
Istvan Gallery at Urban Art
Anyone else surprised at the number of art galleries here in the metro area? It seems like I hear about a new one every couple weeks. Just goes to show that you need to get out of the house more and explore where you live. There’s much more to do in OKC than hit the movies or party in Bricktown.
Angi and I met up with Stephen Kovash, owner of the Istvan Gallery at Urban Art. The gallery off 12th & N. Western has a new show right now and it opened Friday night.
Check wimgo.com for more details about the art show.
Along with an art gallery, Urban Art also houses work space for a couple local glass artists. While I was there for the art show, I ended up talking to the blown glass artists and learned how the process works.

They made sure to keep me from their huge 2000+ degree glass melting ovens.
